About
Fall, Winter and Spring 12-Week sessions (3) are all included with this academic year-long plan. Every session, each student will partake in seasonal gardening and will continue to graph their progress of learning to: grow, preserve, and prepare their fresh food; prioritizing healthy soil biology and life skills. A large outdoor plot is not needed, growing indoors in a pot, on a patio or in a neighbor's plot makes any space the student's classroom. Rooftop community gardens, aqua & hydro-ponic facilities, vertical gardening, intensive market gardens, homesteading and no-till organic backyard gardens are all examples of Urban Agriculture. Resourceful water and land management along with resilient farming are all necessary and healthy practices we should familiarize ourselves with to sustainably produce our food. Through Environmental Studies we learn how biological habitats have been affected, and discover green solutions to current and future environmental issues; tracking statistical data for knowledge and preparation. Reducing resource consumption will be part of every session as we track usage and find alternatives. Exploring Engineering Sciences helps us to develop innovative technology in order to efficiently cultivate and distribute agricultural products to urban areas, as we continue to change with our environment. During each new session, we will extensively explore some of the above interdisciplinary topics and focus on a single aspect for our completion project. We will put the project and presentation into action in reality, or digitally. This will help the student turn what they have learned into practice and develop skills that will allow them to gain ownership and equity in their future. My goal is for your own community to learn with you. Depending on one another while having access to goods and services provided locally is how we will: build healthy networks, become more accountable to our consumption, and gain community sufficiency.
