Session A Program (Fall 2024)

During the Fall 2024 session, we will discover the biology behind growing from seed and create a designated space for you and your family to continually learn how to grow, preserve, and prepare foods you will enjoy through the seasons. This will be your classroom, where you will graph your progress and findings! It can be inside your house, on your patio, on a neighbor's plot... Exploring the work of fascinating microorganisms does not require a large outdoor space. Potential events such as: excessive heat, fire, flooding, and scarce or contaminated water may affect your area. Our project this session will be to explore green solutions to new climate events. We will study historically difficult times in human agriculture, along with their causes and implications and balance our findings with understanding the natural biology of the earth; allowing us to learn to become more resilient with future environmental challenges. Each student will create an accurate climate event scenario and pair it with a well researched green solution; presenting it to our community by using their chosen, unique format. This entire process will be managed by me and there will be weekly goals and assignments to gain completion. Traditional Academic Standards to be Completed this session: Literary Reading/Language Arts: Research & Writing Skills & Creating a Presentation Ancient and Recent Human History, with Social and Geographical Studies Science: Biological and Environmental Studies Technology: Engineering Models of Green Solutions Math: Creative Digital Graphing, Building Spaces Life Skills: Growing from Seed & Preparing food, Tracking healthy consumption practices, Resiliency I highly recommend using Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.org) for continued learning and testing for math (& other subjects), from Pre-K through College. Khan Academy is free (donations are welcome) and was created by Sal Khan from Harvard University to bring equity in learning to the world.
